It’s hot, it’s dusty and the work is back-breaking but quarry workers in Mandera have to grapple with another major hurdle- insecurity. More than 40 quarry workers have lost their lives in Al-Shabaab attacks in this border County in the last three years. Most of those who died were from Nyeri County in Central Kenya, a place that’s 700 Kilometers away.  In their quest to earn a living they are exposed to the cruel hand of militants. What drives them to the quarries in the semi-arid north?
Our team visited Nyaribo village to talk to some of those who survived past attacks in Mandera.
